Who sets the Electrical Rates?
The Commission for Energy Rates (GART-Spanish abbreviation), which is an autonomous, technical and decentralized entity of OSINERG, responsible for establishing the electric rates.
Which rate is more convenient for me?
Rate choice depends exclusively on the owner, based on his/her consumption habits. The dealer will inform the user
about the different rate options according to his/her voltage level; therefore, it is up to the user to choose the
most appropriate option, which will be in force for a year unless otherwise expressly agreed upon by the parties
involved.
How is the service monthly cost calculated?
The cost of energy consumed is calculated by obtaining the differential between the current month’s reading and the
previous one, the result is multiplied times the meter factor and the bill rate.
(Meter Factor: current reduction constant that allows meter registry).
Additionally, other items are considered: Fixed Charge, Maintenance and Replacement Charges, Public Lighting Aliquot
plus IGV (sales tax.)
(Fixed Charge: costs included regardless of power and energy demand).
Only non-BT5 rates will include reactive energy and power in the bill.
What is the meter factor?
- The meter factor is the current reduction constant that allows
adjusting the load to be measured to the meter equipment capacity.
- When measurement can not be made directly, reduction factors are
used for the measurement equipment to stand tensions and currents in order to register energy consumption. To
obtain the actual consumption, reading differentials must be multiplied times the meter factor.
Why do rates increase?
Rates change according to the provisions set forth by the Commission for Energy Rates. This commission evaluates
the generation, distribution, operation and commercialization costs incurred in by the dealer companies issuing rate
lists that must be of compulsory application.
If I live in a shantytown, why do I pay as If I lived in a residential area?
Differences in the rate system depend on the electrical sectors. Lima belongs to a unique sector, therefore costs
are the same.
Within the same electrical sector, prices vary according to the rate option applied.
How much electricity does each appliance consume (in S/. and in kW/h)?
Each appliance’s consumption in kWh and its equivalent in soles depends on its daily usage (consumption habits),
and its power (W) -generally written in the back or bottom of the appliance. The more you use it, the higher the
amount of the bill will be.
