Luz del Sur got favorable sentence in a penal process on equity felony filed against Hugo Ponce Salvador, leaseholder of business premises located at 493 Porta St., Miraflores.

The Third Penal Court with Free Defendants sentenced Mr. Ponce as the author of a crime against equity in the modality of augmented theft of electrical energy in detriment of the electricity company. Such court sentenced four years of personal restraint penalty and the payment of three thousand Nuevos Soles for compensation in favor of Luz del Sur.

The events started when technical personnel from Luz del Sur detected a three-phase illegal connection directly to the matrix in the above mentioned business premises, which Hugo Ponce had been leasing since 1998.

The Judiciary has already penalized in several cases those responsible of electricity theft. Article 186, section 3 of the Penal Code prescribes that "...the agent shall be restrained with no less than three years and no more than six years, provided that the theft is carried out: (...) 3 - by means of dexterity, climbing, destruction or rupture of obstacles..."
