December 2019: Activity in favour of children of PRONOEI in the San Juan de Roldan shantytown, Quilmana – Cañete. On the occasion of Christmas 2019, on Saturday, December 7, a Corporate Volunteering activity was carried out in favour of children of the San Juan de Roldan shantytown, in Quilmana district – Cañete province. In this way, we approached the community of Cañete, with the purpose of benefiting 157 children 3 – 5 years old from 10 PRONOEI (Non-School Initial Education Program) in the aforementioned Shantytown.

Our main objective was to transmit the true meaning of Christmas, both to the beneficiaries and to the workers of Luz del Sur, because Christmas is not only for children, it is for everyone who lives the desire of sharing and giving love, mainly with those who need it. In this way, we bring a morning of joy and enthusiasm to children in vulnerable situations in an important community in our concession area, in which Luz del Sur Volunteers (LdS Volunteers) and beneficiaries interacted at the different times during the programme.

41 LdS Volunteers participated in this activity, 4 of whom were workers of our Cañete office. It was a very important activity for us, because it also served to strengthen camaraderie between workers of Cañete and other workers of different areas of the company. Workers of Cañete showed satisfaction and expressed they felt integrated through Corporate Volunteering Program, with the commitment to continue working together for the community of Cañete.

About the beneficiary children, there were 157 registered, but attended 152 from the 10 PRONOEI of San Juan de Roldan. Each group was led by a person responsible for children called Promotora.

It was an activity that not only benefited the community, but also, as in previous activities, some of the workers’ competencies were implemented, such as commitment, communication skills, leadership, teamwork, problem solving (contingencies) and interpersonal sensitivity. Likewise, some of the most important values of society were highlighted, such as love for others, equity, gratitude for what we have, and respect for other people.

In this way, we extend our purpose of volunteering, which is to generate social awareness in workers of Luz del Sur and their families.
